U.S. Treasury to Conduct $6 Billion Long-Term Bond Buyback
The U.S. Treasury will conduct a buyback of long-term bonds worth up to $6 billion on November 1. This buyback will target bonds maturing between February 15, 2037, and August 15, 2046, specifically 10-year to 20-year bonds, and will take place from 1:40 PM to 2:00 PM (local time). The Treasury announced plans to expand the scale of long-term bond buybacks in August, increasing the liquidity support buyback scale from a previous maximum of $2 billion to at least $4 billion from September 9 to November 4. On September 10, $10.489 billion was offered in the buyback of 10-year to 20-year bonds, with $5.187 billion purchased. As of the 30th, the yield on U.S. 10-year bonds is at 5.29%, 20-year bonds at 5.68%, and 30-year bonds at 5.64%, maintaining a high level. The rise in long-term interest rates is influenced by a combination of factors including the U.S. economy, inflation expectations, the Federal Reserve's monetary policy, and the burden of large-scale bond supply. The Treasury plans to disclose additional details regarding future buyback scales and operational directions through its quarterly refinancing plan on November 4.
