TD Cowen: Bitcoin Evolving Beyond Asset to Financial Infrastructure
TD Cowen stated that Bitcoin is evolving beyond being just an asset and will increasingly serve as financial infrastructure for institutional products. Following the Bitcoin Treasuries Conference in New York, TD Cowen observed heightened institutional interest in Bitcoin, not merely for accumulation. Major banks are exploring the technology behind Bitcoin, offering and utilizing crypto products to enhance their services. The report highlighted that Bitcoin is transitioning to support new capital-markets activities. Conversations at the conference focused on the ecosystem developing around Bitcoin rather than Bitcoin itself. TD Cowen noted that Bitcoin could play a role in supporting capital markets infrastructure. Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin Treasury Strategy has long maintained that Bitcoin will underpin other financial products. The firm, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, offers preferred stocks that pay dividends. TD Cowen mentioned that Bitcoin custody is becoming more institutional as larger capital pools enter the ecosystem. U.S. and European banks have begun offering Bitcoin custody services, with BNY Mellon becoming the first major U.S. bank to do so in 2022. Deutsche Bank plans to launch a Bitcoin custody service for European clients in 2026. TD Cowen concluded that these developments indicate Bitcoin's evolution into a broader financial ecosystem supporting sophisticated institutional participation.
