LLM Token Price Drops 52%, AI Demand Remains Strong
On September 24, Silicon Data released a report stating that the decline of the LLM Token Index does not indicate a weakening demand for AI. The index fell from $2.07 on May 28 to $1 on September 21, a decrease of 52%, but it had previously risen by 67% from January to May this year. The index measures the actual price paid by API users per million tokens, reflecting that more tasks are being assigned to cheaper models. The GPU rental market still shows strong demand, with H200 rental prices increasing from $2.87 in June to the current $3.29, reaching as high as $3.32 on September 19; the B200 rental price is $5.76, up 31% year-to-date. Silicon Data believes that while token prices may continue to decline in the future, the total token usage will still see significant growth, with truly high-value tasks remaining concentrated on cutting-edge models, and the widespread adoption of AI will increase the demand for computing power.
