AI Agents May Threaten Blockchain Infrastructure

Transferring control of cryptocurrency wallets to AI agents can lead to serious problems. Currently, blockchain networks may not be prepared for the increasing presence of AI agents in the market. AI agents, operating based on LLM language models, can perform various tasks, including managing finances. In the case of cryptocurrencies, agents can utilize digital wallets, allowing them to make automatic payments without the need for human authorization. The x402 project created by Coinbase has already processed 75 million transactions with a total value of 24 million dollars, with an average payment of 0.32 dollars. The problem arises when AI agents start executing multiple micropayments simultaneously, which can overload existing blockchain infrastructures. The increase in small transactions may force blockchain networks to implement significant changes to handle hundreds of millions of payments daily without high fees and delays.
