Circle Highlights the Impact of Stablecoins in Korean Trade
Circle has presented the significant potential of using the stablecoin USDC in trade payments and fund management for Korean companies. Emphasizing the advantages of 'programmable money' that automatically executes transactions based on conditions, it also highlighted the need for real-time risk management systems and institutional foundations. David Katz, Circle's Vice President of Asia-Pacific Strategy and Policy, stated at a seminar in Seoul that due to the large proportion of trade in the Korean economy, stablecoins can have a practical impact. As a real-world example, a remittance company was able to reduce its collateral from five days' worth to two days' worth after switching to USDC payments. Katz explained that stablecoins enhance the speed of fund processing and allow for more efficient use of funds. However, he pointed out that risk management methods must also evolve to accommodate 24-hour real-time trading, emphasizing that regulatory compliance and risk control functions should be integrated into the transaction process. He added that the introduction of digital asset regulations and laws in Korea is timely.
