Visa, Stripe, and Mastercard Launch Dollar-Pegged Stablecoin OUSD
Open Standard has launched the OUSD stablecoin, pegged to the US dollar, with support from over 100 corporations, including Visa, Stripe, and Mastercard. The OUSD token is available for businesses and developers, and its launch marks one of the largest attempts to bring digital assets to the mass market. Initial access to the coin is provided by Visa, Stripe, BVNK, and cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, which, along with Shopify, plan to issue tokens worth approximately $1 billion for initial liquidity. Open Standard CEO Zach Abrams noted that a better stablecoin is necessary for market development. The launch of OUSD occurred three months after the project's announcement, demonstrating the integration of digital coins into traditional payment systems. Citigroup has also reached an agreement with Coinbase to accept payments in stablecoins for corporate clients. OUSD operates on four blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana, and will be implemented in partner services such as Stripe.
