US Bond Yields Exceed 5%, Wall Street Declines
Global stocks and bonds fell at the end of a week marked by central banks' efforts to curb inflation. Interest rates in Japan failed to support the yen. The war in the Middle East, which has lasted nearly seven months, keeps oil prices above $100 per barrel, fueling inflation fears. Brent crude fell 1% to $103.1 per barrel, while WTI crude dropped 1.2% to $100.8. The yields on 10-year US Treasury bonds once again surpassed 5%, levels similar to those during the 2007 crisis. In September, the largest increase in interest rates in the G10 since July 2023 was recorded, with four countries raising rates. In the markets, the S&P 500 fell 0.18%, the Nasdaq declined 0.07%, and the Dow Jones dropped 0.50%. Shares of Lam Research, Seagate, and Broadcom rose, while Nucor, General Motors, and Lennar fell. On a weekly basis, the Nasdaq increased by 0.26%, the S&P 500 fell by 0.44%, and the Dow Jones decreased by 1.97%. In Europe, the Euro Stoxx fell 1.46%, the German DAX dropped 1.60%, and the French CAC declined 1.41%. In Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.60%, the Shanghai Stock Exchange increased by 0.94%, South Korea's Kospi jumped 2.66%, and Japan's Nikkei 225 rose by 1.52%.
