Tim Draper Criticizes Apple and Meta for Lack of Bitcoin
Venture capitalist Tim Draper deemed the absence of Bitcoin on the balance sheets of Apple and Meta as an irresponsible approach. Draper noted that current financial trends could lead to high inflation or interest rate hikes, stating that Bitcoin could serve as a hedge against these risks. Institutional Bitcoin purchases have drawn attention as some publicly traded companies have begun adding crypto assets to their balance sheets. However, Microsoft rejected a Bitcoin-related proposal with only 0.55% support in December 2024. Meta's shareholders also brought up a similar proposal in May 2025, but the board advised against voting in favor. Draper described Bitcoin as the infrastructure for an alternative financial economy, arguing that blockchain systems could reduce the role of intermediaries. He also predicted that artificial intelligence could expand the Bitcoin ecosystem and facilitate the easier development of new products. Draper indicated that Bitcoin is still far from its price target of $250,000.
