The ownership of cryptocurrencies among American investors dropped to 11% in June, down from 17% a year earlier, according to a Gallup survey. Despite this decline, Bitcoin has seen a significant rebound since the survey period. In June, 66% of investors reported not being interested in cryptocurrencies, an increase from 63% the previous year. River estimated in July that 49.6 million Americans own Bitcoin, representing 18.6% of adults. The decline in interest is more pronounced among young people, with ownership dropping from 18% to 8% among those aged 18-29. Households earning less than $48,000 per year saw their ownership decrease from 12% to 4%. 63% of investors view cryptocurrencies as very risky, and 31% as somewhat risky. Risk perceptions also apply to cryptocurrency holders, with 77% considering them very risky. The Fed indicated that 10% of American adults used cryptocurrencies in 2025, with 9% doing so for investment purposes.
