BitGo CEO: Tokenization Expands Access, Dollar Depreciation Intensifies K-Shaped Economy
In an interview with Bitcoin Magazine's BMTV, BitGo CEO Mike Belshe stated that the core of tokenization lies in expanding access rather than trading. He pointed out that the current financial system stems from the paper stock certificate crisis of the 1960s, which led to the New York Stock Exchange shutting down weekly to complete physical stock deliveries, and the existing framework still primarily serves large institutions. Belshe believes that the inability of retail investors to borrow against their assets and their only option being to sell assets is a key reason driving the K-shaped economic divergence. He mentioned that 'phantom stocks' and tokenized stocks will change this situation, and expressed that long-term confidence of holders can be demonstrated through proof of reserves and share time-locks. The interview also discussed the new centralized risks brought by custodial concentration, how multi-signature and MPC can eliminate single points of failure, what needs to be supplemented in the U.S. regulatory framework, and the role of AI agents in asset management. Belshe explained the true meaning behind his statements regarding the dollar potentially going to zero.
