Producer Prices in Eurozone Rise by 1.6 Percent in July
Producer prices in the eurozone increased by 1.6 percent in July compared to June, exceeding the expected rise of 1.3 percent. The increase was primarily driven by higher energy prices, which rose by 5.6 percent. In June, producer prices had decreased by 0.3 percent. Compared to July of last year, producer prices have risen by 5.8 percent. In the entire European Union, prices rose by 1.4 percent in July, with a year-on-year increase of 5.6 percent. In the Netherlands, producer prices remained stable in July compared to June, but were 4.5 percent higher than a year earlier. Higher producer prices may later be passed on to consumers in the form of higher consumer prices. Inflation in the eurozone rose to 3.3 percent in August, partly due to more expensive energy. The European Central Bank is monitoring price developments for future interest rate decisions.
