Man Arrested for Stealing Binance Accounts in Venezuela
Brayan José Briceño Durán was arrested on September 29, 2026, in Carabobo, Venezuela, by the Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC) after being accused of compromising Binance accounts for illicit profit. The arrest took place in the Ricardo Urriera urbanization in Valencia, where it was determined that Briceño forged an ID to carry out his crimes. According to the director of the CICPC, Douglas Rico, Briceño concealed his financial trail and operated fraudulently in the cryptocurrency market. The stolen funds were used to purchase luxury vehicles, phones, and computers. Briceño was made available to the Public Ministry after evidence was collected. This arrest occurs in a context of irregular use of exchanges in Venezuela, where Binance has been linked to extortion and scams. On September 18, 2026, the CICPC warned about extortions related to virtual kidnappings, where criminals demanded ransoms in USDT sent through Binance. In response to the increase in cyber crimes, joint actions have been taken to recover funds, such as the collaboration between the CICPC and the exchange ChangeNOW, which returned $791,252 in cryptocurrencies to a Venezuelan citizen.
