Ethereum Glamsterdam Tests Target 2026 Mainnet Transition

Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstatter announced that the development process for the Glamsterdam upgrade is nearing its final stages. Significant progress has been made on the proposal known as EIP 7928, which involves Block Level Access Lists. The countdown for Glamsterdam has accelerated with ongoing trials in developer networks. The Sepolia fork is planned for October 6, 2026. The mainnet transition is expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2026, although an official date has not yet been announced. Wahrstatter expressed that Glamsterdam could be one of the largest Ethereum forks seen to date. The upgrade aims to lay the groundwork for Ethereum's next-generation scaling steps. There are three main focus areas: speeding up transactions, increasing network capacity, and limiting unnecessary bloat in the database. ePBS stands out as a component that reorganizes the block validation process. Vitalik Buterin shared his technical vision for the post-Hegota era, emphasizing that Ethereum can no longer be defined merely as a blockchain. Buterin stated that the plans following Hegota will transition Ethereum to a hybrid architecture offering stronger features.
